Duryea/Pittston Twp. advances to District 16 softball final

Lauren Crowley did just about everything for Duryea/Pittston Twp. Friday.

In the semifinals of District 16 Major softball play, Crowley picked up the win in the circle and added four hits to pace Duryea/Pittston Twp. to a 10-3 win over Nanticoke.

The win puts the locals in the championship round. That game will be played on Tuesday against the winner of Nanticoke and Mountain Top, who will play today.

Duryea/Pittston Twp. has already beaten Mountain Top, along with Nanticoke.

Alexa McHugh and Karry Shamnoski both had two hits apiece. Nanticoke was led by Liz Redbinski, who had three hits, and Brinley Sobeck had two hits.

Nanticoke 14, Jenkins Twp. 1

Brinley Sobeck tossed a one-hitter, striking out 14 in six innings of work to lead Nanticoke over Jenkins Twp., 14-1, Monday in District 16 Major Division softball play. Sobeck added two hits at the plate.

Gabby Para singled for Jenkins Township.

Emilee Bobos chipped in for Nanticoke, finishing 2-for-4 with a triple.

Plains-Wilkes-Barre 8, Jenkins Twp. 7

Allyson Laivaura had a single to hit in Alexa Borecin for the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning in top Jenkins Twp., 8-7, in Major Division softball action.

Jenkins is eliminated from the tournament. It had hits from Angelina Falcone and Jallian Warabak.

Molly Toray was the winning pitcher with 13 strikeouts while give up two hits.

Duryea/Pittson/Avoca 9, Mountain Top 5

Lauren Cowley was the winning pitcher, and added two hits for Duryea/Pittston/Avoca in a 9-5 win over Mountain Top Wednesday in District 16 Major Division softball action.

Duryea’s Alexa McHugh, Carrie Shamnoski also had a pair of hits. Mountain Top’s Sarah Macko and Sarah Hopkins each had two hits.

District 31 Majors

Back Mountain 4, Greater Wyoming Area 2

Cassandra Konopki had one double and a single in a 4-2 win over Greater Wyoming area in District 31 Major Division softball.

Kendra Saba, Mia Dixon, Olivia Johnson all had singles for Back Mountain. The loss drops Greater Wyoming Area to the eliminatino bracket where it will face Harvey’s Lake/Northwest, today.

Greater Wyoming Area 11, West Side 0

Cassidy Graham fired a no-hitter as Greater Wyoming Area defeated West Side 11-0 in four innings on Monday in District 31 Little League major softball play. Graham also led the team at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a home run and two doubles.

Aubrey Mytych (2-3, double, triple, RBI), Cassidy Orzel (2-4, RBI) and Madelyn Resciniti (2-2, RBI) also contributed for GWA.
