The fourth annual Children’s Golf Tournament at Emanon Country Club will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 29. Games, prizes and a pizza/hot dog party will follow. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $20 for each parent/child pair and $5 for each additional child.

Golfers and non-golfers are welcome to putt, swing and ride in a cart. Top 4 of the golf course will be for non-golfers to chip and put. A nine-hole captain and mate will be on the back nine for experienced golfers. Every child will receive a medal.

Avoca/Dupont Little League will hold fall baseball registrations from 7-8 p.m. on Monday, July 29 from at the upper Avoca Little League Field Clubhouse. Registration is open to Little League ages nine to 11 for $25 per player. Junior League is open for ages 12 to 14 with signup fee of $30.


The Pittston Red Devils Sportsmen’s Club will hold a special meeting on Monday, July 29 at 7:30 p.m. at Dr. Nick Ruggerio’s home. On the agenda will be final plans for the upcoming outing to be held on Saturday, Aug. 3 at Martnellis Grove starting with lunch at noon and dinner at 4 p.m. A final count will be taken at this meeting. All members are urged to attend.



Pittston Area football media day will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 30 on the main field. Players may return Sports and More picture order form with check or money order to the photographer at this time. This is also the deadline for the football program ads, lottery and membership tickets. We are in need of players and parental volunteers to sell additional lottery tickets at Redners on Saturday, Aug. 3 and Saturday Aug. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A signup sheet will be available after practice next week. Next booster club meeting is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at the Cefalo Center.



Wyoming Area girls varsity soccer team will have a Car Wash & Bake Sale Fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 9 a.m. to noon at West Side Auto, Wyoming Ave., West Pittston. Tickets can be purchased from any player. Cost is $5 or just stop by. Please come out to support the girls. Visit us on



Pittston Area Field Hockey will be hosting a free youth field hockey clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 5-8, and Friday, Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Bucky Harris Sports Complex. Clinic is open to current Pittston Area School District students going into grades fourth through eighth. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the first day. No previous experience necessary, with the final day being a “Fun Friday”. Participants are required to bring their own mouth guard. Shin guards and stick are also required. The Pittston Area cheerleading team will hold a car wash from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 10 in the Pittston KMART parking lot. Tickers are $5 available now from the cheerleaders. Cash will also be accepted the day of the event. There will be no rain date.



Family Service Association of Northeastern Pennsylvania (FSA NEPA) and members of the Pauly Friedman 5K Family Walk/Run announced the fifth anniversary race slated for Sunday, Aug. 11 at Misericordia University on Lake Street, Dallas. Registration for this 3.1 mile event is at 8:30 a.m. with the race beginning at 9:30 a.m. Pre-registration is suggested with the first 300 registrants guaranteed an official event t-shirt. Walk-ups will be accepted on race day. Teams, with a minimum of five participants or more, are now forming and the team who raises the most donations will receive the “Answer the Call Traveling Trophy” as part of the team challenge. All participants must raise a minimum of $25 in donations to receive awards. Teams may consist of both walkers and runners. The Pittston Area cheerleading booster club will meet at 7 p.m. on Aug. 14 at the Midtown Sports Bar and Grill (the old Damon’s by the airport). All cheerleading parents are urged to attend. The cheerleaders are collecting Redner’s receipts year round. You must use your pump perks card at the register. Please give the girls your tapes.



The 47th annual Exeter Golf tournament will be held Sunday, Aug. 18 at Emanon Country Club. Tee times will be taked from 11 a.m. throughout the afternoon. The cost is $75 per golfer, or $65 without a cart, which includes greens fees, prizes, food and refreshments. Mail applications and fees to George Burns at 41 Barber Street, Exeter. The Fifth Annual Golf Tournament to benefit the 1st. Lt. Jeffrey DePrimo Memorial Fund, Luzerne Foundation, will be held Aug. 17 at the Wilkes Barre Golf Club. Registration is at 7 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Cost is $75 per golfer, which includes 18 holes of golf, cart, dinner and awards following the golf. Mark Casper HOOPS4ME Camp, a fun, educational course on the fundamentals of basketball will be held the Wyoming Area Catholic gym, Wyoming Ave, Exeter from Aug. 19-23. Boys grades 3, 4, 5 from 9 a.m. to noon; Boys grades 6, 7, 8 from 1-4 p.m. Cost is $65 per player or $55 per player with more than one player per family. Along with the teaching of FUNdamentals, there will be some 3-on-3 competitions, some 5-on-5, foul shooting contests, our famous skills obstacle course and more. Duryea Little League will have its family night on Friday, August 23 at PNC Park to see a RailRiders game. All boys and girls who were players in our league are free. Parents and siblings are a cost of $8. Reservations can be made by calling 655-0203. Last day to accept reservations is August 8. Duryea Little League will be having a fundraiser at Yogurt in Love, in the Pittston Plaza near Kmart, on Thursday, August 1 from 6-9 p.m. Please come out to support the Little League.



More than a half-century ago, games played at the Little League Baseball® World Series were first televised.

Since 2001, an exhibition game has been played by teams that are a part of Little League’s Challenger Division®. This year, for the third time in as many years, that game will be a part of the television coverage of the World Series.

The 2013 Little League Baseball World Series Challenger Exhibition Game, will air live on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 10:30 a.m. on WVIA-TV. In addition, the game will be carried live on the Internet worldwide at:

The Challenger game will be played at Volunteer Stadium on the Little League International complex in South Williamsport, Pa. The game will feature a team from California District 57 from Northern California, and a team from Illinois District 13 from the Chicagoland area.



The Avoca AOH will hold it’s annual golf tournament on Saturday, August 31 at 8 a.m. at Pine Hills Country Club in Taylor. Format is captain and mate. The Emanon Day for Autism Golf tournament will be held Sunday, Sept. 8 at Emanon Country Club in Falls. The tournament benefits S.A.F.E. (Supporting Autism and Families Everywhere). The Holy Rosary school is looking for golfers for its Fifth Annual Holy Rosary Golf Tournament on Sunday, Sept. 15 at the Pine Hills Country Club in Taylor. The tournament is captain and crew format with lunch and dinner included.
