The Second Presbyterian Church, Parsonage Street, Pittston will conduct its annual Easter Egg Hunt at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 23 at the church. Sponsored by the Christian Education Committee, this year Pittston Area High School National Honor Society students Rachel Lazevnick, Jennifer Mataloni and Leanne Para will organize th event. Prizes will be given to all participants.

The San Cataldo Society will celebrate the Feast of the Annunciation of the Blessed Mother at the 11:15 a.m. Mass today, March 17.

The Holy Name Society of St. Joseph Marello Parish will sponsor the annual smoker at 6 p.m. on March 24 in the Parish Center. Toastmaster will be Atty. Joseph Saporito. Jr. and guest speaker will be Rev. Brian J.W. Clarke, pastor of Holy Rosary Parish, Hazleton and Chief Canonical Council to the Diocesan Bishop. A buffet dinner will be served before the start of the formal program. Tickets at $10 can be obtained by contacting the rectory 654-6902 during office hours or by calling Jim at 654-4929.

Breakfast for CCD Students and their families will be held in our Hall following the 9:30 a.m. Mass today, March 17. The students will process into the church and participate in the Mass.

Altar & Rosary Society will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 21 in the Parish Center.

The St. Joseph Marello Parish Golf Committee will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 18 in the Parish Center.

In keeping with the tradition of the parishes of Pittston, the annual Lenten Penance Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 25 at St. John the Evangelist Church. Stations of the Cross will be celebrated on Friday evening at 7 p.m. This Friday we will be using Mary’s Way of the Cross. All are welcome to this time of fellowship, prayer and reflection.

Altar Server Rehearsals for the Easter Triduum Services

In preparation for the Easter Triduum Services, we will have the following rehearsals for the Altar Servers: Rehearsal for Holy Thursday will be held on Palm Sunday, March 24 at noon.

Easter Egg Hunt

All children of the parish are invited to meet the Easter Bunny and participate in an Easter egg hunt on at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 23. Carolyn Moscatelli has volunteered to chair this event. Registration forms have been distributed at Religious Education Classes as well as being available in the back of the church for those children not yet in school or who are enrolled in parochial or private school. The deadline for registrations is today March 17.

“Living Stations of the Cross”: The high school students are preparing for their gift to the Parish of the “Living Stations of the Cross” to be presented on March 21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Site of St. Monica Parish.

Divine Mercy Ministry: of St. Monica’s will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. on Sundays. The mission of this youth group is to lead our young people into a loving, trusting relationship with God through the Merciful Heart of Jesus and His Church.

The Light Is On For You: The Church encourages us to make confession a regular part of our spiritual life, especially during the holy season of Lent. Every Parish in the Diocese will be participating in a Lenten initiative entitled “The Light is On for You.” Beginning on the first Monday of Lent and continuing through the last Monday of Lent, March 25, confessions will be heard in each Parish from 5:30 to 7 p.m. so that Catholics can come to or return to this incredible source of God’s grace, mercy and healing.

The Palm Sunday Mass with the procession of palms will take place Sunday, March 24 at 11 a.m. at the church, 715 Hawthorne St. Palms will also be blessed and distributed at the 8 and 9:30 a.m. Masses as well as the 4 p.m. vigil Mass on Saturday, March 23.

The parish has exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and holy hour prayers every Tuesday at St. Mary’s Church, 715 Hawthorne St., following the 8 a.m. Mass. Throughout the Year of Faith, the chaplet of Divine Mercy will also be prayed.

At 7:30 p.m. the rosary is prayed before benediction and reposing of the Blessed Sacrament. Anyone who can spend one hour weekly at adoration on a regular basis is asked to call Ann Jake at 457-3521 or the parish office.
