HUGHESTOWN LIONS TO
PRESENT SCHOLARSHIPS
The Hughestown Lions Club will meet Monday, July 15 at 7 p.m. at the Hughestown Hose Company. On the agenda, the Dale Kridlo, and Clarence Hensley/Jerry Chilipko scholarships will be presented to Julia Schiandra. Also on the agenda, the installation of officers for the upcoming year.
Officers are as follows: President, Steve Golya; First Vice-President, Fred Pierantoni; Secretary, Denise Chilipko; Treasurer, Phil Falvo; and Membership Drive Chairman, Frank Tierney. A dinner will be held to honor Julia and her family. All members are being asked to attend this special meeting.
PITTSTON HS ‘57
The members of the 1957 class will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17 at Tony’s Pizza, City Line Plaza. All class members are cordially invited to attend.
NORTHEAST HS ‘63
The Northeast 1963 class reunion committee will meet on Wednesday, July 17 at the Duryea VFW at 7 p.m. Classmates are urged to make reservations for the 50th class reunion to be held on October 11 at Colarusso’s LaPalazza. Also, any graduates of Northeast High School from 1964-1966 are invited to attend. Contact Michael Hopkins at 457-0413.
The committee is seeking addresses for the following classmates – Richard Ash, Grace Bahnweg Gilhooley, Margaret Balchune, Theresa Ann Cherone Poremba, Robert Czar, Alan Dommes, Patricia Gedrich Matthews, Joseph Mashunas, Dolores Struzzeri Lemardy, Anna Mae Thomas, Carol Menichini Marshal, and Catherine Purcell Hess. All classmates are invited to the meeting to offer suggestions for the reunion.

GREATER PITTSTON CULTURAL COALITION
The next organizational meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday, July 22 at the Duryea Borough Building. Anyone interested in helping out or joining this organization are invited to attend.
YAPLE MEMORIAL PARK PICNIC
The picnic is set for July 27 from noon to 5 p.m. at Robert Yaple Memorial Park in Hughestown. The event will feature a dunk tank, Moon Walk, DJ Jim Simko, free food and refreshments. This year there will be a bake sale. Anyone wishing to bring side dishes may do so.
WSCC REUNION
Sixty is the new 40 is the theme of the 60th birthday party for graduates, their spouses or their significant others from the class of West Side Central Catholic High School Class of 1971. Emailed invitations have been sent to those whose addresses on file. The birthday celebration will be held from 1 to 7p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1 at The Grove at Checkerboard Inn, Carverton Road, Trucksville. Wyoming Area High School Class of 1973 will hold its 40th anniversary reunion on Saturday, Aug. 31 at the Swoyersville American Legion Pavilion. Any classmate who has not received an invitation is asked to conact Dotty Martin at dottymartin@comcast.net.
FLEA MARKET
St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 205 N. Main St. Pittston will hold its 17th annual flea market and ziti dinner from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3 and Sunday, Aug. 4 in the church hall.
Along with the Ziti dinner, ethnic foods such as piggies, haluska, pirohi and hot dogs at the snack bar will be available to eat in or take out. Coffee, tea and soft drinks will be available. A bake sale and money raffle will be held. Plenty of parking is available.
Ziti dinner tickets will be sold at the door.
