Students at the Tenth Street Elementary participated in a variety of activities to end the school year.

The students experienced a hands-on presentation by local taxidermist Ken Collins of Taxidermy Studio in Taylor. The presentation correlated with the Amazing Animals Reading Theme. Collins’ wife, Donna, is a secretary at Tenth Street Elementary.

Students also took a trip to the Wyoming Hose Company on Eighth Street in Wyoming. Palmer Johnson, professional firefighter and Pennsylvania fire instructor, explained a firefighter’s job and equipment. The students saw how the firehouse operates and had the opportunity to ask questions. The field trip was in conjunction with a Reading story, “A Trip to the Firehouse.” Johnson’s daughters attend Tenth Street Elementary.

To celebrate Earth Day and the Reading Theme Nature Walk, the students listened to the reading of “The Lorax,” watched the movie and planted sunflower seeds. Marlene Knaub organized and conducted the activities. She was assisted by Brian Williams.

Second-grade teachers are Barbara Moore and Cathy Maheady. Building principal is Jon Pollard.
