Everyone plays the game for something. But some play it for someone.

And this weekend, residents of the Greater Pittston area were “Joining Together for Jordan.”

The Duryea Fire Department’s first annual softball tournament was held Friday, Saturday, and continues today on the grounds of the Duryea Little League field.

All proceeds from this year’s tournament will benefit firefighter Jordan Thomas. Recently, Thomas was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and has started his battle against he disease.

This is Duryea Fire’s way of giving back to a hometown hero who has been there to answer the bell for so many others with no questions asked.

Monetary, basket or gift certificate donations would be greatly appreciated. Stop by the field, or contact any Duryea Fire Department member.

The Duryea sports complex has three different softball fields. Throughout the weekend, each field was chalked with softball weekend warriors. In all, 17 teams participated in the event.
