If you love tomatoes — in a succulent sauce or right off the vine, over a crunchy bruschetta snack or flying through the air in a cafeteria-style food fight — downtown Pittston could be just the land o’ lycopene you want to visit.
The 30th Annual Pittston Tomato Festival opens Thursday, Aug. 15 and runs through Sunday, Aug. 18 on the festival grounds off South Main Street. The festival opens at 5 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Over 50,000 people are expected to attend the four-day festival.
There will be live entertainment every day, a 5K run and the wild and crazy tomato fights on Saturday. The 2012 Tomato Festival Queen will be crowned on Saturday.
As usual, the Dispatch will offer a variety of givealways at its booth, including limited edition Tomato Festival T-shirts and the latest edition of the Sunday Dispatch die-cast toy vehicle, this year a black Ford F-150.
Clip the “Dispatch Dollar” on this page for a free spin on the wheel at the Dispatch booth. Or made a $1 donation to the Care and Concern Clinic and Greater Pittston Food Pantry for a spin.
Complete festival details appear in the Original Tomato Festival Guide inserted in today’s Dispatch.
