If you love tomatoes — in a succulent sauce or right off the vine, over a crunchy bruschetta snack or flying through the air in a cafeteria-style food fight — downtown Pittston could be just the land o’ lycopene you want to visit.

The 30th Annual Pittston Tomato Festival opens Thursday, Aug. 15 and runs through Sunday, Aug. 18 on the festival grounds off South Main Street. The festival opens at 5 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Over 50,000 people are expected to attend the four-day festival.

There will be live entertainment every day, a 5K run and the wild and crazy tomato fights on Saturday. The 2012 Tomato Festival Queen will be crowned on Saturday.
