Kindergarten students at Montgomery Avenue Elementary School in West Pittston celebrated their 100th day of school on Feb. 13. The students in Mrs. Augello’s and Mrs. Burdett’s classes sang songs, made crafts and participated in many different counting activities.
The students were most excited about the Cold Noses Warm Hearts Campaign where the students, along with their teachers and aides, set a goal to collect 100 cans of cat and dog food by the 100th day of school to be donated to the SPCA of Luzerne County.
The collection began in the beginning of February and, by the 100th day, the classes had collected nearly 500 food items for the animal shelter, far exceeding their expectations. The students had a terrific time counting and keeping track of each can as it came in and were thrilled to be able to help such an important local charity.
