Miranda Warunek, a senior at Pittston Area High School and a member of Our Lady of the Eucharist Parish is sponsoring a fundraiser for the Pediatric Health Clinic, housed in the former Seton Catholic High School building and sponsored by the Care and Concern Ministries of St. John the Evangelist Parish.

Featuring the Emerald Isle Step Dancers, the event will be held at 1:30 p.m. today, April 7 at the Pittston Area High School auditorium. Donation is $7.

The event is in honor of Our Lady of Eucharist parishioner Colleen Shea.

The Ladies Auxiliary to V.F.W. Post 8335 will meet Monday, April 8 in the post home, 915 Main St. Following the regular meeting, officers will be elected for the 2013-2014 term.

SPRING RUMMAGE SALE

The Confraternity of Catholic Women of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish of Holy Trinity Church, Hughest Street, Swoyersville will hold its annual Spring Rummage Sale from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 8, 9, 10 and 13 with additional hours from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 8.

DURYEA BOROUGH

COUNCIL MEETING

The Duryea Borough Council April meeting and work session will be held on Tuesday, April 9 in the Duryea Borough building. The public work session will be at 6:30 p.m. and the monthly meeting will follow immediately.

WYOMING BULK PICK UP

A bulk item pickup in Wyoming is scheduled for Wednesday, April 10. Residents with a garbage sticker can place out one bulk item (such as a sofa, matress, etc.) or white good applicance (hot water heaters, appliances, refrigerator/freezer with doors and freon removed.)

Bulk items must have a pick-up sticker attached which are available for $5 at the Borough office, 277 Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming and are limited to one per household per month. Also, the Department of Public Works will be street sweeping throughout the borough the week of April 8.

HOSE COMPANY

The Dupont Volunteer Hose Company will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10. Fire company members thank all who attended the annual pancake breakfast held at the hose company. Those who purchased lottery tickets are reminded that the winners pertain only to the 7 p.m. drawing in April.

Greater Pittston NARFE Chapter 1723, President John Ryan has announced the meeting day has been changed from the second Thursday to the second Wednesday of every month. The next meeting will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10.

The JLW Mountain Laurel Lions Club is hosting an all you can eat breakfast buffet from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 14 at the West Wyoming Fire Dept. banquet room on Shoemaker Avenue.

The buffet will consist of scrambled eggs, sausage, ham, pancakes, potatoes, coffee, tea, juice and muffins. Proceeds from the event will be donated back to the community. Tickets are available $7 adults and $5 for children at the door or in advance.

St. Joseph’s Senior Social Club will meet Thursday April 18 at 1 p.m. in Mt. Carmel’s Center on William St. in Pittston.

A pasta dinner to benefit Joe Frushon, a 10-year-old recently diagnosed with osteosarcoma, will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on April 20 at the First United Methodist Church, West Pittston.

Tickets prices are $8 for adults and $5 for children age 12 and under. Takeout will be available from 3:30 p.m.

There will also be raffle baskets and a 50/50 drawing.

ROAST CHICKEN DINNER

A roast chicken dinner will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 20 at the United Methodist Church Pittston (corner Broad and Church streets). Takeouts begin at 4:30 p.m.

The menu includes a half roast chicken, family style mashed potaotes, gravy, green beans, pepper hash, cranberry sauce, dessert and beverage.

Cost is $9 for adults and $5 for children under 10 years of age.

READING DAY

Community Reading Day sponsored by the Pittston Chamber of Commerce will be held from 9:15 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 25 at local elementary schools.

To volunteer for the 17th Annual Community Reading Day and spend an hour of your day reading to area school classrooms, contact the Greater Pittston Chamber no later than April 12. Participants will be provided with a book prior to the event.

PITTSTON HIGH CLASS

OF ‘66 PIZZA PARTY

This June will mark the 47th anniversary of the high school graduation of the Pittston High School Class of 1966. It was the final graduating class from Pittston High before the Pittston Area merger.

To recognize the occasion, a PHS Class of ‘66 Pizza Party has been planned for all graduates, their families and friends. The party is scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 7-11 p.m. at Arcaro & Genell’s Restaurant, Old Forge.

This is a “no stress”, “casual dress” and “informal” event, just like any other pizza night.

The menu includes salad, assorted pizza’s, homemade stromboli, pasta (with 3 sauces), as well as wine, beer and soda refreshments.

There will be a cash bar for those interested in cocktails. The cost for the event is $32/person or $64/couple including tax and gratuities.
