The Sons of the American Legion, Squadron 585, Duryea, will hold its monthly meeting at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11 at the Post Home. Plans will be finalized for the fall bbq rib dinner and beer raffle. All members are urged to attend. Dues are now being collected.
The Son’s of the American Legion, Squadron 585, Duryea, recently held election of Officers for the 2013-2014 year. Elected were, James Balchune Sr., Commander; Vincent Yonushka, Sr. Vice-Commander; Michael Andrews, Jr, Vice-Commander; David Dehaba, Finance Officer; Peter Guitson, Adjutant; Matthew Balchune, Chaplain; James Galuske, Historian; Ronald Mehal, Sgt at Arms.
The Son’s of the American Legion, Squadron 585, Duryea, will hold a Cheesesteak Hoagie Sale on Saturday, Aug. 31, starting at noon. Onions, Mushrooms and Peppers are available at an extra fee. The sale is open to the public and serving until sold out. You can order by calling 457-4242.
76th REUNION
The Taylor High School class of 1937 observed and proudly celebrated its 76th class reunion on Sunday, July 21 at the Raddison. Classmates in attendance were as follows: Lillian Goldstein, Duryea; Edward Grabowski, Philadelphia; Andrew Kavulich, Johnson City, N.Y.; Lyla Scalwy, Conn.; Mary Rowlands, Taylor.
The classmates enjoyed a wonderful cocktail hour followed by an exquisite dinner. There were many prizes and awards handed out.
COUNCIL TO MEET
The Duryea Borough Council meeting and worksession will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 13 in the Duryea Borough building. The public worksession will be at 6:30 p.m. and the monthly meeting will follow immediately. The public is invited to attend.
VFW PANCAKE
BREAKFAST SET
The Duryea VFW Post 1227 will be having a Sausage and Pancake Breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18. The meal includes: pancakes, sausage, eggs, fruit, coffee or tea and apple or orange. Advanced tickets are $8 and tickets at the door will be $8.50. Children 10 and under are $4. More information: 457-3346.

CLAM BAKE
The Polish Falcons, Nest 128, Duryea, will be having a Clam Bake from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15 at Memorable Occassions (formerly Y.M.S. of R) Main Street, Duryea. Cost of ticket is $35. No one under 21 allowed. You can purchase tickets at the Club, from Mary Shock, Gilles Lemay, Peter Guitson or call 457-5355. Included is Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Beer and Soda. DJ Diamond Dave will provide entertainment. No Tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets must be purchased by Sept. 8.
