Dominic DeLuca, who just completed his freshman season at Wyoming Area, is one of 25 underclassmen from around the state selected to represent Pennsylvania in the 10th annual Brine National Lacrosse Classic July 18-21 in Richmond, Va.

DeLuca made the team through a tryout June 3 in Philadelphia.

“It’s a good recruiting event,” Wyoming Area coach Shaun Rohland said of the chance for DeLuca to gain exposure to college coaches.

DeLuca played on the second line of midfielders, coming off the bench to consistently see significant playing time for the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 champions. He was also part of the unit the team used for its extra-man attack.

“He’s most likely play middie down there,” Rohland said, “but when he gets down to Virginia with different coaches, they could want to use him on the attack, too.”

GIRLS LACROSSE

Wyoming Seminary’s Kate Romanowski, a West Pittston resident, repeated as Player of the Year on the Times Leader all-star team released Wednesday.

Romanowski was the leading scorer on the Blue Knights team that won Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 and District 2 Class 2A titles. Wyoming Seminary won both titles in all four years of her career.

As a senior, Romanowski scored 89 goals and assisted on 21. She finished her career with 239 goals and 54 assists.

“I tried to work on my defense because my offense was something I worked on the year before,” Romanowski, a team captain said of her final season of lacrosse before concentrating on field hockey as a scholarship athlete at Villanova University. “And, just trying to be a team player all around in preparing the younger girls for the seasons to come.

“They’re going to be missing 12 seniors.”

SOFTBALL

Pittston Area had three players selected to participate in Wednesday’s 38th annual Robert L. Dolbear Wyoming Valley Conference Senior All-Star Game at the Dallas Little League Field.

Taryn Ashby, Jordan Cegelka and Dominique Quaglia were the selections.

The Pittston Area players are part of the East team coached by Holy Redeemer’s Jerry Paulukonis.

Ryan Stetz from Nanticoke will coach the West team, which includes players from the Division 2 schools plus Meyers and Wyoming Valley West.
