WEST WYOMING — Mayor Joseph Herbert swore in two members of the West Wyoming Fire Department at the council’s regularly monthly meeting Oct. 12.

Martin Macklin was sworn in as a member of the fire police and Maureen Zaboski was sworn in as lieutenant of the fire police.

Councilman Daniel Grescavage thanked PennDOT for completing the Shoemaker Avenue bridge project earlier than scheduled. The bridge reopened on Oct. 7 though it was scheduled to reopen Oct. 23.

In other news, the borough has applied for a Community Development Block Grant for ADA-compliant upgrades around the borough building.

The council also announced the following events:

• The West Wyoming Recreation Board will distribute Halloween candy bags on Oct. 31 at the borough building and at West Wyoming Hose Company No. 2 on Stites Street.

• A paper-shredding event will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17 at the borough’s department of public works building on Shoemaker Avenue. The event is open only to residents of West Wyoming.

• The West Wyoming Hose Company No. 2 will hold a chicken barbecue on Sunday, Nov. 1. For more information, call 570-287-1182.

• West Wyoming Hose Company No. 1 will hold its annual fall craft show on Saturday, Nov. 14. Vendor space is limited and the cost per space is $20. For more information, call 570-954-4531.

The next meeting of the West Wyoming Borough Council will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9.
