Mr. and Mrs. Dominick Bartoli, of Duryea, and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Thomas, of Browns Mills, New Jersey, announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their children, Dr. Kristen Marie Bartoli and Dr. Jason Thomas.
The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of the late Harold and Anna Chromey, of Duryea; Raymond and Mary Pepe, of Pittston; and Dominick Bartoli Sr. of Pittston.
The prospective groom is the grandson of the late Teresa Thomas, of McMinnville, Tennessee; and Yi Choi, of South Korea.
The bride-to-be is a 2000 graduate of Pittston Area High School and a 2004 graduate of Temple University where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in biology. She is also a 2010 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine where she obtained her PhD in biochemistry and molecular genetics with a focus in cancer biology research. She is currently an American Cancer Society Postdoctoral Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts where she is studying RNA biology of cancers.
The prospective groom is a 1998 graduate of Pemberton Township High School, New Jersey, and a 2002 graduate of Temple University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in biophysics. He is also a 2007 graduate of the University of Illinois Champagne/Urbana where he obtained his PhD in biophysics with a focus in drug design. He was awarded an American Cancer Society Postdoctoral Fellowship for his postdoctoral research at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California. He currently heads a research lab at The Novartis Biomedical Research Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts, focused on identifying new treatments for crippling diseases.
The couple, after 14 years together – 10 of which were separated by up to 3,000 miles — will exchange vows on Nov. 1, 2015, at The Publick House Historic Inn in Sturbridge, Massachusetts.
