Pittston City Council approves 90-day parking restrictions on Fear Street

PITTSTON — City council members approved a temporary experimental parking restriction on Fear Street at the council’s monthly meeting.

Pittston Administrator Joe Moskovitz said the idea for the restriction is due to how narrow Fear Street is, saying cars parked along the sides of the road are blocking the views of other driver trying to get out of their driveways.

“It makes for a dangerous situation,” said Moskovitz. “The police monitored it for a few days, saw the situation that was created by new parking patterns and are following city code by doing a temporary restriction.”

The Pittston City Code of 455-4 says that signs will be erected along the selected street, in this case Fear Street, indicating the days and hours under which parking shall be acceptable.

Moskovitz said the temporary restriction will be for 90 days and that council will review the situation at the end of that time period to determine whether or not to make the restriction permanent.

In other business, city council members:

    • Approved the hanging the St. Patrick’s parade banner on Main Street.

    • Approved the closing South Main Street and Kennedy Boulevard between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, for the Leprechaun Loop one-mile run and the St. Patrick’s Parade.

    • Approved the following three people to the Pittston Zoning Hearing Board: James Serino to a term expiring Dec. 31, 2016; Michael Augello to a term expiring Dec. 31, 2017; and Vernon Jones to a term expiring Dec. 31, 2018.

    • Approved Michael Augello to the Pittston City Parking Authority to continue the five-year term, left vacant due to the passing of Jim Norris back in July of last year, to expire Sept, 15, 2017.

    • Approved Joseph Chernouskas to the Pittston City Housing Authority to continue the five-year term, left vacant by the resignation of Michael Augello, to expire October 2018.
