HUGHESTOWN — Kevin Booth, superintendent of the Pittston Area School District, has announced that registration of students who plan on attending kindergarten in the district for the 2016-17 school year will be held through Tuesday, March 22.

All students must be 5 years old by Aug. 31 and parents may register in one of the following ways:

• Access the online registration site: www.pittstonarea.com and complete all required information by Tuesday, March 22.

• Return a completed registration packet and copies of required documentation to the administrative office, 5 Stout St., Pittston, by Tuesday, March 22. Registration packets can also be picked up at the administrative office, if necessary.

The kindergarten screening process will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. from Monday, April 4 to Thursday, April 7 at the Pittston Area Primary Center, 210 Rock St., Hughestown.

A parent or guardian must bring the student to the Primary Center during the screening and each child will receive hearing and vision screening. Children will also receive a Reading Readiness Assessment, which is an assessment of pre-reading skills, consisting of two parts: identifying letters of the alphabet and phonemic awareness assessment.

Lastly, immunization history will be reviewed. The following immunizations are required: four doses of diphtheria and tetanus vaccine (one dose administered on or after the fourth birthday); three doses of polio vaccine; three doses of hepatitis B vaccine; two doses of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR); two doses varicella vaccine (chicken pox) or proof of disease.

Students will be screened alphabetically according to last names.

Those with the last names beginning with A through F will be screened April 4, G through L will be April 5, M through R will be April 6 and S through Z will be April 7.
