WEST PITTSTON — The annual Fourth of July Young Run 4 Fun saw approximately 75 runners take their speed to the track at Anthony “Jake” Sobeski Stadium on Monday, July 4.

The runners, ranging in age from 2 to 14, were running in memory of the late West Pittston Mayor Tony Denisco, who passed away in April. Members of Denisco’s family were at the finish line handing out medals and ribbons to the finishers. Each participant received a T-shirt, honoring the event.

The runners were escorted and cheered on by the cheerleaders around the track.

The run was coordinated by the West Pittston Parks and Recreation, along with the Wyoming Area cheerleaders. Proceeds from the event went to the rec board, to help offset costs of events throughout the year. The next event may be a Movie in the Park in August, but the next scheduled event is the Halloween Parade.
