DURYEA — The Phoenix Performing Arts Centre will be holding performances of “Chicago” from Friday, Aug. 12 to Sunday, Aug. 14 and from Friday, Aug. 19 to Sunday, Aug. 21.

Friday and Saturday shows begin at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees begin at 2 p.m.

Set in 1920s Chicago and based on real-life murders and trials, “Chicago” follows Roxie Hart, a wannabe vaudevillian star who murders her lover and is arrested. In the Cook County Jail, she meets her hero, the famed double-murderess and nightclub performer Velma Kelly, but when both acquire the same lawyer, Billy Flynn, tensions come to a head as they vie for the spotlight of the newspaper reporters.
