PITTSTON — Council decided Wednesday to apply for state gambling grants to pay for a variety of potential projects.

The first application, the Pittston City Yards and Equipment/Vehicle grant, is for $524,000 and would be used to expand the public works building.

The second, an application for more than $600,000, is dubbed the Pittston Neighborhood Initiative grant. It would be used for improving blighted properties and assist with constructing senior housing.

The last – for $1.8 million – would be used primarily for the Luzerne County Community College campus on South Main Street.

The grants will not be awarded until later this year.
