Holy Rosary School: Classes begin on Monday, Aug. 31

The first day of Holy Rosary School’s 2015-16 school year is Monday, Aug. 31.

First week of school

Grades 1-8 will begin classes on Monday, Aug. 31. Kindergarten will begin classes on Tuesday, Sept. 1. The pre-K 4-year-olds will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 2. The pre-k 3-year-old class will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 8. There will be an early dismissal each day of the first week of school. Dismissal on each of those days will be at 11 a.m.

Cafeteria onformation

Holy Rosary School is a participant in the National School Lunch Program and offers daily lunches which meet all federal guidelines for healthy student meals. Participation in the school hot lunch program for grades PK-8 is recommended. School lunch prices for the 2015-16 school year are $3 per day, and reduced price lunches are $.40 per day. Applications for free/reduced price lunches are available in the school office.

The August lunch menu was included in the summer mailing.

Anyone wishing to purchase a school lunch must return the order form and payment to the school office by Monday, Aug. 31. The order form is available on Edline. Students in kindergarten and the pre-k 4-year-old program may return their orders and payment at orientation. Lunches are preordered and prepaid.

PK and kindergarten orientations

There will be special Preschool and kindergarten orientations for students and their parents at the following times: Pre-k 4-year old from 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 31; Kindergarten from 1 to 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 31; Pre-k 3-year old from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1.

Arrival and dismissal information

Weather permitting, students will gather each day in the parking lot behind the school prior to the opening bell at 7:45 a.m. Buses will discharge and pick up students on Stephenson Street directly in front of the school, and car riders will be dropped off and picked up on Stephenson Street in front of the school as well. Parking is available in the lots across from Holy Rosary School and Church.

During arrival and dismissal times, there is no parking in the bus lane, which begins in front of the church and ends at the far end of the school. During a typical week of school, dismissal begins at 2:15 p.m., with bus riders dismissed first, followed by car riders and walkers.

School gift certificates

Gift certificates will be sold during the first week of school from 8 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3. Due to the early dismissal, orders received on Sept. 3 will be sent home on Sept. 4. The usual schedule will resume on Thursday, Sept. 10.

After-school care program

Holy Rosary School will once again offer an After Care Program (ACP) for the 2015-16 school year. Students enrolled in grades Pre-k 4 through eighth grades are eligible. On regular school days, the program will operate from the time school is dismissed until 5:30 p.m. The After Care Program will not be available on early dismissal days or when school is closed and will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 8. All families who may participate in the After Care Program must complete a registration form, which will be included in the first day folder of the oldest child in each family.

Back to School Night

Back to School Night for grades one through eight is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3 with a general overview by Mrs. Lee.

Return to school Mass

All family and friends are invited to the Back-to-School Liturgy, which will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 4.

PTO meeting

The first PTO meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8 in the school cafeteria. Officers will be introduced and plans for the upcoming year will be discussed.

Tab collection

The Holy Rosary Student Council will collect ring tabs for the Ronald McDonald House throughout the school year. Tabs may be sent to school with students.

Labels and box tops

Campbell’s soup labels and Box Tops for Education are being collected at Holy Rosary School. These programs provide educational resources that may be unaffordable through the school’s regular budget. They offer merchandise like computers, software, sports equipment, reference materials, science and art items, even musical instruments. Labels and box tops may be sent in immediately and processed before they expire.
