PITTSTON — About a third of the Inspiration Mural in downtown Pittston is complete.

Muralist Michael Pilato and his team have been working long days and nights to finish the mural prior to the 32nd Annual Pittston Tomato Festival. Pilato said that shouldn’t be an issue if weather treats him well.

Pilato is currently on vacation and will be back in Pittston working on the mural in the coming days.

So far, 15 characters appear on the mural, including “Machine Gun” Lou Butera, Elvis impersonator Shawn Klush, Paralympic bronze medalist Stephanie Jallen, Pittston founder William Pitt, and Kevin McGroarty, among others.

The five-story mural overlooks the Pittston Tomato Festival lot on the south side of the Newrose Building, which sits on the corner of Main Street and Tomato Festival Drive.

The Pittston Inspiration Mural is expected to be completed prior to the Tomato Festival, which begins on Thursday, Aug. 20.
