Stuccio receives dean’s award

HAMILTON, N.Y. — Sarah Stuccio, of Pittston and a graduate of Scranton Prep, recently earned the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence at Colgate University.

Locals attend Opening Day Picnic

DALLAS — Danielle Fereck, Pittston, and Alexa Malloy, West Wyoming, were part of the Misericordia University Opening Day Picnic on the lawn of the Banks Student Center on Aug. 31.

The event featured 1,500 students, faculty and staff. The outdoor picnic allowed the students to mix and mingle with faculty and staff at the campus where caring and personal attention are a hallmark of a Sisters of Mercy education.

LaPorte one of first graduates

DALLAS — Melissa LaPorte, Exeter, a Master of Science student in Nursing to Doctor of Nursing Practice Program (DNP) at Misericordia University, recently became one of the first graduates of the program when she completed an oral defense of their DNP capstone projects.

Graduates of the program were honored at a dinner at the Irem Temple Country Club. LaPorte was also awarded the DNP Award of Excellence in Evidence-Based Practice.

The graduates of the program will receive their degrees at the fifth annual Winter Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, Dec. 20 in the Anderson Sports and Health Center on campus.

Locals receive teaching assignments

DALLAS — Charles Hampton, Duryea, and Alyssa Zekoski, Harding, both Misericordia University teacher education majors, recently received their student teaching classroom assignments for the fall semester during the Student Teaching Seminar in Mercy Hall.

A total of eight teachers participated. Hampton was assigned to Wyoming Valley West and Wyoming Area school districts. Zekoski was assigned to Lake-Lehman.

Happy Birthday wishes

Margaret Monk, Hughestown historian, celebrated her birthday on Sept 1.

Theresa Valenti, Exeter, will celebrate her birthday on Sept. 7.

Jerry Borowicz, of Goudsboro, formerly of Pittston, will celebrate his birthday on Sept. 9.
