Lane split on Interstate 81 North causing heavy congestion between Wilkes-Barre and Pittston

Commuters heading northbound this morning should stay clear or Interstate 81 between Pittston and Wilkes-Barre.

Due to a lane split one mile south of the Pittston/Dupont Exit 175, traffic is stop-and-go back near the Wilkes-Barre Highland Park Boulevard Exit 168. The on-ramp from Route 115 is also heavily congested. With the traffic on 81, Route 315 North is also experiencing heavy traffic.

Once traffic reaches the Pittston/Dupont exit the congestion is clear.

Other than the congestion on 81, traffic in the Wyoming Valley is moving at a steady pace this morning. The North Cross Valley Expressway is flowing freely from Wilkes-Barre through the Back Mountain. The on and off ramp of the Cross Valley near Exit 1 is congested.

The South Cross Valley Expressway, Route 29, is moving freely with the exception of the on-ramp at the Route 11 split in West Nanticoke.

There are areas of moderate congestion on Wilkes-Barre Boulevard and North River Street in downtown Wilkes-Barre.
