Warm temperatures will keep a grip on the Wyoming Valley this week, but some potentially heavy rain is expected to move into the area.
According to a special weather statement by the National Weather Service, a cold front will move across the area into this evening and bring a band of locally heavy downpours and potentially gusty winds.
The National Weather Service indicated that it was 58 degrees as of 6:54 a.m. at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, with overcast skies reported.
Mostly cloudy skies are expected today, with showers becoming likely after 5 p.m. A 60 percent chance of rain is predicted, with up to a quarter of an inch of rain possible. Today’s high will be near 62.
Showers and a possible thunderstorm are expected before 1 a.m. tonight, followed by isolated showers into the overnight hours. An 80 percent chance of rain is predicted, and up to a quarter of an inch of rain could fall. Winds could also gust as high was 20 miles per hour. Tonight’s low will be around 48.
Partly sunny skies are predicted for Tuesday, with a high near 54. Partly cloudy skies will follow into Tuesday night, with a low around 37.
Mostly sunny skies are expected on Wednesday, with a high near 49. Partly cloudy skies are predicted for Wednesday night, along with isolated showers after 1 a.m. The low will be around 39.
