YATESVILLE — The Pittston Area School Board approved the hiring of special counsel in an employee termination case at its monthly meeting Tuesday.

The board hired Peter Paul Olszewski Jr. as special counsel to determine whether the district should initiate termination proceedings of an employee within the school district. Olszewski Jr. is a former Luzerne County judge. He will be paid $175 per hour and work with the school board to devise a solution to a case involving an employee.

The board did not identify the employee in question. A school official told the Times Leader the district has suspended high school teacher Colleen McGarry without pay for an alleged inappropriate relationship with a female student under the age of 18. The school district, along with the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office, is currently investigating the incident.
