Tickets on sale for Spring Fling dance

PITTSTON — Tickets are on sale for the Spring Fling dance to be held from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 23. Cost is $7.50 which includes music by George Rittenhouse and light refreshments. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

A four-hour AARP Safe Drivers Course will be offered on Friday, May 6. This is a refresher course and is only offered to individuals who have completed either the two-part Basic Course or Refresher Course in the past three years. Those who complete this course and are at least 55 years of age may be eligible for a 5 percent car insurance discount for the next three years. Line dancing classes with Sue are held at 10 a.m. on Monday. Exercise classes with Catherine and Ruth are held at 9 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Sandi offers chair exercise classes at 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and 9 a.m. on Thursdays. There is no charge for these classes.

Ceramic Class with Ann is held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays while Bingo with Ron and Amy is held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday and Friday mornings and also from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoons.

Shuffleboard matches are held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning, men challenge the women. Helen Shannon is captain. Craft class with Faye and Roseann is held at 10 a.m. Thursday mornings. Wii bowling with John is offered.

The center offers ballroom dance lessons with Joseph Kull, instructor at 2 p.m. on Fridays. A small fee is charged.

Bridge lessons for beginners and those who want to refresh their skill are being scheduled for Friday afternoons. Contact Connie Kokinda at 570-655-5561 for more information.

The center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Free coffee is available from 8:30 a.m. to closing.

Lunch is served at noon Monday to Friday. Asking donation is $2 for those 60 years of age or older and $4.62 for those under 60 years of age. Reservations must be made by noon at least one day in advance. To make reservations, call the center at 570-655-5561.

Make Easter chocolates on Monday

EXETER TWP. — Homemade Easter chocolate making will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Monday, March 21. All supplies will be provided.

Lunch and Learn at 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, March 24 will be with Pat Lawless from the Cancer Institute to discuss colorectal cancer.

A Lunch and Learn special presentation by a student intern from Penn State Extension, entitled, “Savor the Flavor of Eating Right” will be at 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, March 31.

The book club will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 4 to discuss “No Second Chance” by Harlan Coben.

Artist Rose Brostoski will give a class from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Monday, April 4.

Lillian Russell-Burnett, Nutrition Education Advisor for Penn State Cooperative Extension, will conducts classes on teaching people how to eat better for less from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the following Thursdays — April 7, 14, 21 and 28.

The following activities are available throughout the week to anyone ages 50 and older at the Falls Active Adult Center:

Mondays: 10:30 a.m. to noon, Craft Club meets. Many projects are offered with all supplies provided.

Tuesdays: Brain games at lunch. Bingo following lunch.

Wednesdays: 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. walking group meets, weather permitting. Nutrition tips at lunch.

Thursdays: Nutrition talks at lunch. Bingo will be held following lunch.

Fridays: 9:30 a.m. to noon Geocaching activity, weather permitting. Free Zumba Gold from 9:15 to 10 a.m.

Anyone wishing to join the Falls Active Adult Center for a hot meal each day at noon for a suggested donation of $2 for those 60 and over and $4.62 for those under 60 should call Twila at 570-388-2623 by 12:30 p.m. the day before.

ST. JOSEPH’S SENIOR SOCIAL CLUB

Trip to Villa Roma is Monday

PITTSTON — On Monday, March 21 there will be a St. Joseph’s day trip to the Villa Roma in Callicoon, New York. The day will include St. Joseph’s festivities. There will be an authentic St. Joseph’s table in the lobby and dinner in the dining room. After dinner there will be entertainment starring Elio Scaccio a well-renowned Italian entertainer. The club will play bingo in the Forum Room or members can explore the resort. The cost is $79, all inclusive.
