Temperatures are expected to plummet this weekend, and some snow could fall in the Wyoming Valley.

The National Weather Service indicated that it was 64 degrees as of 6:54 a.m. at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, with overcast skies reported.

Rain and thunderstorms are likely before 2 p.m. today, followed by a chance of showers into the evening hours. Up to a quarter of an inch of rain could fall, but more could fall in thunderstorms. Today’s high will be near 70.

Mostly cloudy skies are expected tonight, along with a chance of sprinkles into the early-morning hours of Saturday. The low will be around 45.

Saturday will bring a chance of showers before 2 p.m., followed by a chance for sprinkles into the afternoon hours. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected, and the high will be near 54.

Sprinkles will continue to be possible before 7 p.m. on Saturday night, followed by a chance of rain between 7 p.m. and midnight. Snow will then become likely after midnight, but less than an inch is expected. The low will be around 28.

Partly sunny skies are predicted to round out the weekend on Sunday, along with a chance of snow showers before 8 a.m. and flurries for the rest of the day. Winds could also gust as high as 44 miles per hour, and the high will be near 44.

Mostly cloudy skies are expected for Sunday night, along with a slight chance of snow. The low will be around 29.
