Rain could wash out NASCAR race weekend throughout the Wyoming Valley and Poconos.

According to the National Weather Service, as of 7:02 a.m. it was 67 degrees at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport with patches of fog reported.

The warm air this weekend will also bring thunderstorms. As Saturday progresses, the chance for thunderstorms gets higher. Partly sunny skies are expected to give way to rain after 5 p.m. with today’s high near 81.

Showers will follow into tonight, with a low around 66. Light winds also possible.

The chance for wind and rain will be the greatest on Sunday — race day. If you’re heading to Long Pond, bring an umbrella, as a half inch to three-quarters of an inch of rain is expected. Sunday’s high will reach in the mid 70s.

A thunderstorm is possible Sunday night, with an added quarter to half inch of rain expected. Sunday night’s low will be around 59.

As the work week begins Monday, so does clearer weather. A chance of showers early before the work day begins clearing up for a day with a high near 78.
