Showers and thunderstorms may develop after 1 p.m. today, but the temperature will continue to climb.

The National Weather Service indicated that it was 54 degrees as of 6:54 a.m. at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, with mostly cloudy skies reported.

Mostly cloudy skies are expected today with a high near 83. Showers and thunderstorms may develop after 1 p.m. and could produce gusty winds. The chance of rain is 40 percent with the possibility of a quarter inch of rainfall.

A chance of showers and thunderstorms will remain in the area until after midnight with a low around 65.

Sunday will be mostly sunny with a high near 74. It will be a breezy day with gusts reaching 30 mph. Sunday night will feature a low of 51.

The next work week will start with mostly sunny skies on Monday and a high near 72.
