Local Chatter: Grandchildren of the Pahls, Jenkins Twp., graduate from respective schools

Brothers graduate

BALTIMORE, Md. — David Russell Amici, Havre de Grace, Maryland, graduated in May from the University of Maryland with a B.S. in science. He is working at National Institute of Health (NIH), Washington, D.C. and will attend medical school in the spring.

Christian John Amici, Havre de Grace, Maryland, graduated in June from Havre de Grace High School. He will attend Stevenson College, Maryland, in the fall.

Both men are the sons of Terri (Pahl) and John Amici, Maryland; the grandsons of Dave and Rita Pahl, Jenkins Township and Jack and Karen Amici, and the late Helen Amici.

They are great-grandsons of the late Russell and Rita Hensley, Hughestown.

Local earns President’s Award

KINGSTON —Kira Zach, Dupont, President’s Award for Outstanding Service during Wyoming Seminary’s recent 172nd commencement.

The award is given in recognition of the students’ outstanding special service to the school community, leadership and academic and artistic performance.

During commencement exercises Zack was inducted into Cum Laude, the academic honor society for college preparatory schools. Prior to Commencement she received the President’s Educational Excellence Award and the Bradford Stuart Kline Award in science. She was named to the dean’s list with high honors for the spring term.

Residents graduate from Ithaca College

ITHACA, N.Y. — Kimberly Golden, West Pittston, and Mariah Flaim, Wyoming, both recently graduated from Ithaca College.

Baurys receives award

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Joseph Baurys, Pittston, received the The Biomedical Engineering Professional Practice Award at the 2016 College of Engineering Awards Ceremony at Western New England University. This award is presented to a senior biomedical engineering student who has demonstrated an exceptional understanding of professional engineering practice principles.

Baurys, who was named Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering.

Locals named to dean’s list

BALTIMORE, Md. — Loyola University Maryland announces the following Greater Pittston residents who qualified for the 2016 spring semester deans list: Terrence Donnelly, West Pittston; Julie Langan, Pittston; Michael Voitek, Exeter; Zachary Voitek, West Pittston.

Locals named to deans honor list

TROY, N.Y. — Angelo Aita, Pittston, and Justin Palovchak, Exeter, were named to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s deans honor list for the 2016 spring semester.
