Furry Tails program Aug. 13

PITTSTON — The next Furry Tails Reading Program will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13 at the Pittston Memorial Library. Call the library to register.

Friends of the Pittston Memorial Library will hold a “Meet the Artist” event from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14 in the John P. Cosgrove Center. The artist is Pittston Township’s Piera Santi-Morotto.

The second “Chalk the Walks of the Library” will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16. The event is a project of the Joy Team and is all about spreading joy, optimism and inspiration through sidewalk chalk.

The Pittston Memorial Library’s 5K run/walk for literacy: Book it Through Pittston will be held Saturday, Sept. 10. The race will be held in honor of Tom and Dianne Tigue and the proceeds will benefit literacy programs for kids, teens, and adults.

The evening before the race, Friday, Sept. 9 there will also be a Book It… Kick Off at the Red Mill. This will include celebrity bartenders, a specialty drink, and the opportunity to have an early check in for the walk/run.

Following the event an adult literacy initiative will be started in the Tigues’ honor offering GED, college, work prep, and computer classes. The library will have a temporary change of hours until further notice:

Monday and Thursday – 10:30 to 7 p.m.

Wednesday – Closed

Tuesday and Friday – 9 to 4 p.m.

Saturday – 9 to 1 p.m.

Friends of the Pittston Memorial Library meet at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of every month. New members are always welcome.

Volunteer opportunities are available at the library. Opportunities include helping in the library, or with the Friends of the Pittston Memorial Library group. If interested, fill out a volunteer form at the front desk.

Adult Coloring Club meets at 1 p.m. every Friday and on scheduled evenings.

Adult computer classes will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Thursday. The class goes over email, mouse skills and web surfing. Registration is required by calling the library.

The Crochet Club meets from 10 to 11:45 a.m. every Tuesday. Participants are asked to bring their own supplies including a hook sized I, J, or K yarn.

The Wee Build program is held Thursdays at 6 p.m. and Fridays at 10 a.m. for children ages 1 through 11. The new toys used promote development in many skills and allow children to express themselves through play. Stop by the library and start building.

Board games for all ages are available at the front desk and can be used anytime.

Children ages 3 to 11 are invited to the Lego Club from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. every Wednesday at the Pittston Memorial Library.

The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program at the library is free and open to all children in the community from birth to kindergarten. The child will receive a bag with an age-appropriate book to keep in his or her collection.

WEST PITTSTON LIBRARY

Reading program ends Aug. 12

WEST PITTSTON — The summer reading program and arts and crafts series at the West Pittston Library runs until Friday, Aug. 12 and includes reading, prizes, games, crafts, songs and fun.

WYOMING FREE LIBRARY

Book sale is Aug. 27

WYOMING — Fill-a-bag book sale will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27 at the Wyoming Free Library. The cost per bag is $5. The library is accepting books for the sale.

The Ravenous Readers Book Discussion will meet at noon Saturday, Sept. 10 to discuss “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl at the Wyoming Free Library. The book discussion is free and open to children in grades 2-6. In addition to the book discussion, children will make lickable wallpaper, design a candy bar wrapper and invent their own candy. Call the library to register.

The library will hold a discussion group during the second season of “Podlark.” The discussion group will meeting from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19 for a season one catch-up. The season two discussion will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. every Monday beginning Sept. 26 and concluding Nov. 28.

A Minecraft arts and craft program will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 24. The program is free and open to all ages. Contact the library to register.

Reading help will be available at the library for children in grades 1-4 from 1 to 3 p.m. every Wednesday. Call the library to register.

LAFLIN PUBLIC LIBRARY

Program ends Aug. 13

LAFLIN — The Laflin Library’s Summer Reading Program will conclude Saturday, Aug. 13 with a pizza party and prizes for all who participate. This program is open to children ages 3 and older.
