Starsinsky graduates University of Pittsburgh, commissioned into US Army

PITTSBURGH — Stephen Starinsky, of Duryea, has commissioned into the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant, and will serve as a Field Artillery Officer.

He was named a George C. Marshall Award winner and a Distinguished Military Graduate by graduating in the top 5 percent of all ROTC Cadets across the country. Upon completion of Basic Officer Leader Course and Airborne School, he will serve in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC. He plans to attend Ranger School.

Starsinsky graduated from the University of Pittsburgh summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in Finance and Business Information Systems. Additionally, he received a minor in Economics and completed the PITT Business Certificate Program in Leadership and Ethics.

He is the son of Janine and Steve Starinsky, of Duryea, and the brother of Bridget, Matthew and Sophia.

Starsinsky is a 2013 honors graduate of Pittston Area High School, and was a captain of the Patriots football team.

Greater Pittston adult learners join national honor society

DALLAS — Karin Duszak, Duryea, and Michael Keaney, West Pittston, were among 14 adult learners at Misericordia University inducted into Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society. They were inducted during a brunch on the university’s Dallas campus.

Duszak is working to earn a degree in professional studies and Keaney is studying information technology.

Mike Aufiere, of West Pittston, celebrated his birthday on May 14.
