Teams from around the Pittston area combined to go 4-0 in District Little League action in Major baseball as well as in 8-10-year-old baseball through Friday.

MAJOR BASEBALL

In Major baseball, the 11-12-year-old bracket that advances teams toward the Little League Baseball World Series in Williamsport, Greater Pittston is 2-0 in District 16 Pool A.

Township, playing in District 16 Pool B, and Greater Wyoming Area, playing in District 31 Pool B, each won their first game.

Greater Pittston defeated Plains, 7-2, Monday, then routed Nanticoke, 15-0, in three innings Wednesday.

Chase Montigney had three hits and four RBI in the win over Plains.

Dominic Innamorati had two hits and Brandon Wardecki tripled. Silvio Guardina was the winning pitcher.

Jake Aftewicz threw a two-hitter and got 11 of the 12 outs on strikeouts when Township handled Hanover, 14-0, in four innings Monday.

Township scored 10 runs in the second inning.

Brycen Martin went 3-for-3 and Aftewicz hit a home run.

Greater Wyoming Area defeated Harveys Lake, 7-3, Wednesday.

8-10-YEAR-OLD BASEBALL

Township is off to a 2-0 start while Greater Pittston and Greater Wyoming Area are each 1-0.

In District 16 Pool A, Township downed Wilkes-Barre, 9-2, Tuesday, then overpowered Hanover, 17-1, Thursday.

Greater Pittston topped Plains, 14-4, in District 16 Pool B.

Cole Ricko went 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored when Greater Wyoming Area routed Northwest, 16-4, in four innings Tuesday in District 31 Pool A.

Ben Rogish had two hits and drove in four runs.

Mitchell Rusinchak was perfect on the mound through three innings and finished with nine strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. Rusinchak and Aiden August each had a hit and scored three times.

Aiden August had a pinch-hit, two-run double.

10-11-YEAR-OLD BASEBALL

Township defeated Greater Pittston, 14-8, Thursday in a game to determine which team would finish second in Pool A and advance to the District 16 semifinals.

Township went 1-1 in the pool while Greater Pittston was 0-2.

Mountain Top earlier defeated Township, 16-6, in five innings and Greater Pittston, 18-8.

Township is at Plains Monday at 6 in the semifinals.

Greater Wyoming Area went 2-1 in District 31’s round-robin play to earn the second seed and a home game in Monday’s semifinals. It will play Kingston/Forty Fort at Flack Field in Wyoming at 6.

GWA defeated Kingston/Forty Fort, 15-11, June 23 to start the tournament, then edged Back Mountain American, 14-13, before losing to Back Mountain National, 8-4, in Thursday’s battle for first place.

Alex Vacula and Aiden Allardyce each drove in two runs for GWA in the win over BMA. Jacob Snyder had a triple and single. Winning pitcher Connor Krakosky and Luke Kopetchny also had two hits. Nicholas Ciampi doubled.

SENIOR BASEBALL

Hanover defeated Pittston, 6-5, Monday and, 13-0, Wednesday to sweep the best-of-three series for the District 16 championship.

Aidan Slain had two hits and scored three runs for Pittston in the series opener when Hanover needed a run in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the victory.

8-10-YEAR-OLD SOFTBALL

Liliana Hintze tossed a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts Monday when Pittston opened the three-team, double-elimination tournament with a 9-3 win over Plains.

Hintze also led the offense with three hits and three runs scored.

Jillian Haas had two hits, two RBI and two runs scored. Julianna Cocco had two hits and an RBI.
