Dear Editor,

There are no words great or eloquent enough that can thank all of our family, friends, and the Avoca community for the outpouring of support for our family over these past few difficult months.

I would tell Tom how we were showered with love, support, prayers, and food, during the several months that he was in the hospital in Philadelphia. Tom was a wonderful husband, father, brother, nephew, cousin, friend, and civic leader. He was humbled by the benefit coordinated by family and friends in Avoca that would help his family through this tough time.

The benefit at the West Side Social Club became a celebration of Tom’s life. Family and friends of our Avoca community created an incredible, beautiful tribute to him. Although he couldn’t be here, he was smiling down on all of us with abundant sunshine.

Whether you sent food, a gift basket, a gift, planned the event, set up, cleaned up, served food and drinks, supported us while he was sick, mourned his loss with us after his death, or passed along prayers and kind words, know that our family is incredibly and sincerely grateful for this outpouring of love to us. Special thanks to the medical team at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, particularly the incredible nursing staff in the cardio-thoracic ICU, for their immense care and dedication.

I know Tom always worried about us. We believe Tom died in peace knowing that his family would be well taken care of and supported.

Tom’s AVOCA license plate was a testament to how proud he was of his town and how committed he was to the community. We are grateful to call Avoca our home.
