Wyoming Valley West

Sr. Jumper

Stunned the state by coming from a 26th seed to win the silver medal in the PIAA Class 3A 300-meter hurdles during a race where he overcame a banged hurdle to take the lead down the stretch before being nosed out at the finish. Bunch also competed in the state triple jump and walked out of the District 2 championships with a gold medal in the 110-meter hurdles and silvers in the 300 hurdles, long jump and triple jump.

Hanover Area

So. Jumper

Collected three medals from the District 2 Class 2A championships - including the gold in the long jump, which gave Chafin his first trip to states as a No. 12 seed in that event. Chafin also grabbed a sixth-place district medal in the triple jump and ran on the district’s seventh-place 1,600-meter relay team.

Jr. Sprinter

Captured three medals in the District 2 Class 3A championships after sparking the Crusaders to the WVC Division 1 championship. Chesson finished with two bronze medals by racing to third place in the district 200 dash, helped the Crusaders’ 400-meter relay team to a third-place district finish and anchored a 1,600 relay team that placed seventh.

Jr. Distance

Went to PIAA Class 3A semifinals in the 1,600-meter run on the heels of his District 2 silver medal in that event. Also earned a bronze medal in the District 2 800-meter run.

Jr. Vaulter

Earned a bronze medal in the District 2 Class 3A pole vault by clearing a height of 12-09 while moving up one spot from his district seeding.

Jr. Distance

Won his second consecutive PIAA Class 2A title in the 3,200 run while challenging the state record with a winning time of 9:08. He also captured District 2 gold medals in both the 3,200 and the 1,600-meter runs.

Hanover Area

Moved up from a 12th seed to capture a fifth-place state medal in the high jump after winning a District 2 Class 2A silver medal in the event.

Jr. Thrower

Won the District 2 Class 3A shot put competition with a gold medal throw on his final attempt to enter the PIAA field in that event and also earned a fifth-place district medal in the discus throw after helping Coughlin to the WVC Division 1 title with a dominating regular season in field events.

Hazleton Area

Jr. Distance

Made the state field in the Class 3A boys 800 run after earning three District 2 medals in the Class 3A championships, including two silvers - in the 800-meter and with the 3,200-meter relay team and was also part of the fourth-place 1,600-meter relay team.

Jr. Sprinter

Free from the hamstring problems that hampered his state performance last season, Maurent captured fourth-place PIAA medal in 100-meter dash after winning District 2 golds in the 100 and 200 dashes.

Jr. Thrower

Won the District 2 Class 2A gold medal in shot put with a heave of 50-02.75 and finished tied for 18th in that event during the PIAA championships.

Wyoming Valley West

So. Sprinter

Finished a strong season with a fifth-place PIAA medal in the Class 3A boys 400-meter dash after winning the District 2 gold medal in that event. Richard also anchored Valley West’s district silver medal-winning 1,600-meter relay team.

Jr. Hurdler

Was barely nosed out of one state championship at the end of a silver medal-winning performance in the PIAA Class 2A 300-meter hurdles finals, but claimed a state title as the backbone of the state gold medalist 400-meter relay team. Also won District 2 gold medals in the 300 hurdles and with the 400 relay and took home a district bronze with the 1,600-meter relay team.
