The Avoca/Dupont Major League all-star team advanced to the winners bracket in the District 16 tournament with an 8-4 win over Plymouth.

ADP trailed 3-1 entering their final at-bats, but scored seven in the inning. After one out, Jimmy Pitts, Kevin O’Brien and Brandon Bilwin each walked to load the bases. Chris O’Brien drove in all three runs with a single to center.

Brandon Matthews was the winning pitcher with a complete game, giving up five hits, striking out nine and walking just one.

June 1995

The Greater Pittston American Legion team captured the championship of the InterLeague, which represents teams from Duryea, Pittston Township, Exeter and Wyoming/West Wyoming. The team finished 17-1.

June 1985

Ed Hennigan and Ron Pieczynski took the 27-hole lead at the 54th annual John A. Allan golf tournament at Fox Hill Country Club.

The duo shot a 103 over 27 holes, edging Jack Vasil and Bill Gaylord who came in a 104. Three other teams were two strokes back at 105 – John Watson and Paul Fruehan, Bill Lawler and Joe Lawler, and defending champions Walter Kuharchik and Art Brunn Sr.

June 1975

Chic Andrewscavage hit four home runs in as many days as Greater Pittston’s American Legion team stayed unbeaten in Wyoming Valley League play.

Andrewscavage hit two three-run home runs it that span as Greater Pittston beat Wilkes-Barre Heights, Jenkins Township and Plains twice.
