Wyoming Area’s Bree Bednarski selected as all-state softball player

Wyoming Area outfielder Bree Bednarski was named to the PaHSCSBA All-State First Team.

Several local softball players were named to the 2015 Pennsylvania High School Coaches Softball Association (PaHSCSBA) All-State teams.

In Class AAA, Wyoming Area junior Bree Bednarski was named a First Team All-State outfielder. Bednarski hit .456 this season while stealing 16 bases on 17 attempts. As a center fielder, Bednarski made just two errors.

Pittston Area junior Mindina Lieback, who hit .419 for the Patriots, was named second team outfield.

At shortstop, Pittston Area sophomore Taryn Ashby and Wyoming Area senior Emily Wolfgang were named honorable mentions in AAA. Ashby was a .364 hitter for the Patriots, while Wolfgang hit .452. Wolfgang had 15 steals and drove in 25 runs.

At third base, Pittston Area junior Abbey Bradigan was named an honorable mention in AAA. Bradigan hit .345 for the Patriots

Pittston Area freshman Nina Cencetti was an honorable mention at first base after hitting .321.

Each of the four Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association classes have individual teams with selections made by approximately 240 coaches and sportswriters covering all the PIAA Districts. Class A is comprised of 155 schools, AA with 166, AAA with 164 and AAAA with 165. Therefore, 650 schools play high school softball in the state with nearly 10,000 participants.
