Wyoming Area pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat Pocono Mountain East, 27-7, to improve to 2-0 in the 2005 season.
In the fourth quarter, Ryan McDonnell uncorked a 52-yard run and Tyler Saville followed with a 7-yard touchdown carry — his first of two — and Wyoming Area won going away.
McDonnell finished with a game-high 136 yards on 17 carries. Wyoming Area’s final score came when Justin Piontkowski found John Borzell on a 25-yard touchdown pass.
September 1995
Pittston Area took down Tunkhannock, 27-0, thanks to some impressive running by tailback Mike Owens.
Owens finished with 177 yards on 18 carries in an offense that totaled more than 300 yards. Sophomore quarterback John Widdick threw for 96 yards and two scores – one to Andrew LaBrutte and one to Charles Sciandra.
September 1985
Wyoming Area’s football remained unbeaten with a 37-0 win over Hanover.
Ken Kopetchny returned the second half kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown and caught another from quarterback Phil Russo. Wyoming Area also got touchdowns from Tony Bonomo, Mike Birosak and Paul Angeli.
Wyoming Area’s defense held Hanover to just 179 yards of offense. The Warriors racked up 327.
September 1975
Pittston Area took down Bishop O’Reilly, 15-7, to open the 1975 football season.
The Patriots got touchdowns from John Adonizio and Carmen “Homer” Lopresto. Frank Czerniatkowski kicked a 23-yard field goal as well. Adonizio’s touchdown came from 5-yards out, while Lopresto’s was a 26-yard touchdown run aided by a big block from Frank Krimowski.
