YATESVILLE — Pittston Area kept it close. But Wyoming Area’s seniors didn’t let it slip away. Seniors Nicole Wright, Heather Nametko and Rachael Solano teamed up to lead the Warriors to another win.
While Pittston Area stayed around in the first and third game, Wyoming Area pulled away in each and got an easy win in the second en route to a 3-0 win in Wyoming Valley Conference girls volleyball action on Wednesday.
“(The seniors) have been really dedicated this season and they worked all off-season,” Wyoming Area coach Nick Diaco said. “Leadership is key and that will make us successful this year.”
According to Diaco, Wyoming Area had roughly 15 hitting errors against Pittston Area, allowing the Patriots to hang in.
Wright finished with 11 service points, five kills and three blocks. Nametko had 18 digs and four kills, while Rachael Solano had 26 assists, nine service points and four aces.
Pittston Area sisters Marley and Emily O’Brien combined for seven kills. Marley finished with 10 service points and 16 digs, while Emily had 17 digs.
With the loss, Pittston Area falls to 1-3 on the season. The lone win came against MMI Prep earlier last week.
Wyoming Area has been best this season at getting service points, Diaco said.
“We want to score points right from the get go,” Diaco said. “Practice has been dedicated to that. Our ability to cover the floor has also been good.”
The win puts Wyoming Area at 3-1 on the young season with the only loss coming against Crestwood in the first match of the season. Since then, Diaco has seen his team come together and overcome the early hurdle.
“We knew they were a tough matchup,” Diaco said. “We got that game out of the way and we’re been playing well.”
The Warriors get back to work on Monday, Sept. 21 by hosting Coughlin. On Wednesday, Wyoming Area travels to Lake-Lehman.
