With just two weeks before the PIAA District 2 2A and 3A tournament starts, Wyoming Area’s and Pittston Area’s boys soccer teams earned some crucial points to carry momentum into the final few matches of the season.

Wyoming Area picked up a win against GAR, lost to Dallas and tied with Berwick. Pittston Area turned in a tie against Hanover Area on Tuesday and fell to Crestwood on Friday.

The district championships are set to begin on Tuesday, Oct. 27 for 2A teams. In 3A, the championships begin on Thursday, Oct. 19.

Berwick 0

Wyoming Area peppered Berwick goalie Morgan Broyan forcing him to make 15 saves on 25 shots, but neither the Warriors nor the Bulldogs would be able to find the back of the net during the contest, forcing a tie on Wednesday.

Wyoming Area outshot Berwick 25-15 and held a 10-1 advantage in corners, but a well-played defensive game by the Bulldogs helped to keep the game even throughout.

Wyoming Area 3

GAR 2

Back-to-back first-half goals by Ryan Shuleski put Wyoming Area ahead and Ryan Murphy’s second-half goal provided extra cushion in a close win over GAR on Tuesday.

GAR made a late push behind goals by Emmanuel Edouka and Frankie Espinoza.

Wyoming Area’s Brian McNew finished with two assists and David Klaproth made 13 saves in the win.

Hanover Area 2

Pittston Area 2

Hanover Area and Pittston Area played to a 2-2 double overtime draw on Tuesday.

Jordan Flaim scored both goals for the Hawkeyes, while Nick Allardyce and Shane Syms each scored goals for Pittston Area. Syms scored on a penalty kick with just 10 minutes to play to tie the game for Pittston Area. The Patriots scored two second-half goals to earn the tie.

Crestwood 9

Pittston Area 0

RJ Kresge found the back of the net four times and recorded an assist as he led Comets in their defeat of Pittston Area on the road. Five other Comet players also found the back of the net in the win on Friday.

The Crestwood goalkeeper tandem of Lance Lysiak (4) and Tim Stewart (1) made a total of five saves as they shut out Pittston Area.

Dallas 6

Wyoming Area 0

Ricky Wooditch put in two goals, David Chopyak had a goal and an assist and Nino Capano pitched in with two helpers as Dallas scored six unanswered goals to defeat Wyoming Area. Dallas out shot the Warriors 22-9 and used two goalkeepers to make 8 saves during the shut out.

Wyoming Area also used two goalies, David Klaproth and Shane Sonday, who made a combined 14 saves.
