Seton Catholic’s boys soccer team pitched a pair of shutouts during a successful week.
The Eagles shut out Berwick, 1-0, thanks to Craig Werts’ unassisted goal. The Eagles limited Berwick to just four shots in the win. Two days earlier, Seton took down Hanover Area, 3-0. Werts and Jim Sulima scored for the Eagles.
October 1995
For the first time since 1975, the Seton Catholic golf team finished the season with a winning record. The Eagles also claimed the Lackawanna Southern Division title.
Against Bishop Hannon in the regular season finale, John Mikiewicz and Al Zangardi shared medalist honors at Pine Hills. Mike Faleski, Matt Sciabacucchi, Mike Ostrowski and Jon Dessoye were also winners for the Eagles.
October 1985
The Wyoming Area football team escorted Dallas to a 47-0 defeat to improve to 6-1 on the season.
Warrior workhorse Mike Birosak finished with more than 200 all-purpose yards, including an 80-yard kickoff return and 12 carries for 90 yards and two touchdowns. Joe Bednarski finished with 15 carries for 98 yards and a touchdown. Phil Russo finished with 126 yards passing and a rushing touchdown.
Wyoming Area held Dallas to just 48 yards rushing.
October 1975
Wyoming Area’s Don Black rushed for 201 yards and a school record five touchdowns in a 42-21 win over Bishop Hoban at Plains Stadium.
Mike Manganaro also tallied a TD, while sure-footed Sam Chairge kicked a perfect six-of-six extra points. Wyoming Area rolled for more than 342 yards of offense for the third straight week. The Warriors rushed for 304 yards against Hoban.
