PLAINS TWP. — The Wilkes-Barre Chapter of UNICO will honor long-time high school football coach Jack Henzes with the inaugural Sponsor’s Award at its players banquet on Wednesday.

The banquet is part of the festivities leading up to the annual UNICO All-Star Classic, which will be played at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at Wyoming Area’s stadium in West Pittston.

Wyoming Area recently completed its 50th season of football and Henzes was the Warriors’ first coach. He coached at Wyoming Area from 1966-1969 and has coached Dunmore since 1970. Henzes recorded his 400th career victory this season. He and Berwick’s George Curry are the only Pennsylvania coaches with more than 400 victories.

The Sponsor’s Award will be given annually to people from high school football who made an impact on the game, the community and players.
