    December 2005

    Sarah Fife made a steal and converted two free throws with 45 seconds remaining to give Old Forge a lead it would not relinquish in a 45-44 win over Wyoming Area at the Anthony “Badger” Marseco Memorial Tip-Off Tournament.

    Wyoming Area’s Sarah Maheady nailed what looked like a three-pointer with two seconds left, but her foot was on the line. Fife finished with 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Kylie Sheplock led the Warriors with 16 points and seven rebounds.

    Kayleigh Dymond and Allison Scalzo combined for 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Warriors.

    December 1995

    Pittston Area’s boys basketball team routed Seton Catholic, 96-59, for the team’s first win of the 1995-96 season.

    The trio of Tom Biscotti, Matt Dessoye and Jason Tribbet combined for 46 first-half points. Dessoye finished with 24 points in just two and a half quarters to lead all scorers. Biscotti finished with 21, while Tibbet had 19.

    Ryan Walsh led the Seton offensive attack with 16 points. John Renfer finished with 10.

    December 1985

    Pittston Area and Seton Catholic opened the season with impressive wins in the exhibition boys basketball slate.

    The Patriots’ Matt Zaleski scored nine of his team-high 17 points in the decisive fourth quarter to lead Pittston Area to a 64-62, come-from-behind win over Scranton Central. The Eagles jumped out to an early 12-point first quarter lead and never looked back in defeating an Alumni squad, 55-45. The Alumni team consisted of former players who toiled for head coach Mike Hopkins from 1981-84.

    Wyoming Area outplayed the visiting Scranton Prep team for three quarters before being outscored, 16-6, in the final period for a 47-38 loss.

    December 1975

    Wyoming Area’s boys basketball team squared off against Bishop Kolonowski in the first game played at the new gymnasium at the high school in Exeter.

    The Warriors took care of the Dons, 73-70. It was the team’s first game under head coach Jerry Zezza, who took over the program when Simon Bernosky stepped away from the game following the 1974-75 season.
