EXETER — It was s successful opening night for scholastic basketball in the Greater Pittston area. The Wyoming Area girls team and the Pittston Area boys team each won games to get the season off to a solid start.
Wyoming Area’s Katie Wolfgang poured in 25 points to power the Warriors to a 72-26 win over Susquehanna in the opener on Friday. Lydia Edwards added 14 points, including four 3-pointers.
The Warriors got off to a fast start, taking a 13-4 lead after the first quarter and a 40-12 lead at halftime. The Warriors held Susquehanna to single digits in scoring during all four quarters. Sarah Holweg contributed nine points, while Jessica Sorick had six and Addison Orzel had five. Kristin Skok and Nicole Wright each scored four points.
Black powers Patriots
Pittston Area’s Jordan Black scored a career-high 27 points in a decisive win over Hanover Area Friday night in boys basketball action. Black finished the game with nine field goals and was 9-for-11 from the charity stripe.
Pat Mitchell ripped off 15 points, while Alex McAndrew had nine points and Jimmy Pliska had four.
