Wyoming Area’s Tyrell George scored his 1,000th career point in boys basketball as the Warriors fell to Hazleton Area, 66-54.
George scored 16 points for the Warriors. Wyoming Area’s Guy Fasciana had a game-high 22 points, while Nate Brooks finished with 10. The Warriors were hot early, making their first 11 attempts from the field, including George’s 1,000th point.
January 1996
Wyoming Area’s girls swim took care of business against rival Pittston Area with a 127-59 win.
The Warriors won all three relay events and the diving event to earn the win. Helene Sabola and Nicole Skesavage were first and second in the 200 freestyle. In the 200 IM, Courtney Fenner was first with Pittston Area’s Rebecca Pitcavage second.
Wyoming Area’s Michelle Nerozzi won the diving with a score of 169.15. With the win, WA improved to 4-0.
January 1986
The Wyoming Area girls swim team suffered its first loss of the season with an 89-85 decision against unbeaten Wyoming Valley West.
The Warriors, however, captured first places in eight of 11 events. After dropping the first two events, Wyoming Area rattled off eight of the next nine. Karen Winsock as a triple winner for Wyoming Area, while Cindy Butcofski, Deanna Cassetori and Theresa Shimko were double winners.
January 1976
Pittston Area’s boys basketball team posted a pair of wins to open the Wyoming Valley Conference A Division. The team beat Bishop Hoban, 72-52, and Coughlin, 62-47.
In the rout of Bishop Hoban, Pittston Area’s Jim Blaskiewicz scored a game-high 22 points. Mark Rostkowski added 15 points and Joe Yanchis had 14 points.
On the same night, St. John’s upset a powerful Dallas team, 67-65. Bob Hannon scored 19 points, while Joe LoBrutto added 17.
