Wyoming Area’s Patrick Heck will be seeking his third championship and fourth trip to the finals Feb. 26 and 27 in the District 2 Wrestling Championships at the Kingston Armory.
Heck, who has 99 career wins, won titles as a freshman and sophomore before finishing second last season.
Zachary Briggs is also seeking a return to the top of the medal stand. He won a title in 2014 and finished fourth last season.
Justin Joseph, Adam Buczynski and Kendrick Beyer matched Briggs by finishing fourth individually when the Warriors were fifth out of 14 teams in Class AA last season. Beyer had been to the finals in 2014.
Pittston Area will again compete in Class AAA where it was 13th of 14 teams last season.
The Patriots do not have a wrestler back who placed in the top six last season.
Brandon Goodlavage has missed the entire season with an injury after placing fourth last season.
Wyoming Area’s Frank Yurek, who was sixth at 285 last season, has wrestled in just one exhibition match because of an injury.
West Scranton 42, Wyoming Area 22
Wyoming Area closed out its dual meet season with a 10-10 overall record when it fell at home, 42-22, the afternoon of Feb. 13.
Starting at 220, West Scranton took a 9-0 lead in the first two bouts and never trailed.
Patrick Heck won by technical fall at 138 pounds. Kendrick Beyers (132) and Zach Briggs (170) each won by major decisions. Adam Buczynski (195) also won a decision.
Pittston Area was already done for the season at 3-12.
