Little League: Pittston City Knights of Columbus complete perfect regular season

AVOCA — The Pittston City Knights of Columbus completed its undefeated regular season by beating Avoca VFW, 17-7, on Friday at Avoca/Dupont Little League.

Pittston City pounded out 20 hits in the win. Nikki Dennis had four hits with two triples, an RBI and four runs scored to lead the offensive attack. Jacob Giardina added four hits and two runs, while Jeff Mazonis went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Ethan Ghannam also scored four runs for Pittston City. Tyler Cegelka got the win on the mound pitching four solid innings with six strikeouts.

Ciaran Bilbow and Kaiden Thomas each had two hits, and Nicholas Franchetti and Tyra Winters each added a hit in the loss for Avoca.

Dupont VFW 11

PC Lithuanian Club 7

Leading the offense for Dupont VFW was Nicky Lombardo with four hits and three runs scored in the win over the Lithuania Club. Alex Hoban and Noah Lyons scored three runs each, while Fuzzy Wasko and Ryan DeMattea added two hits each.

Dave Girman pitched a strong game on the mound for the winners.

Dupont VFW 3

Ethan Ghannam and Devin Markert each racked two home runs to lead Pittston City to the win. Ghannam had three hits, including a grand slam, two-run home run and six RBI. Markert had three hits, including a three-run home run, solo home run and six RBI to lead the offensive attack.

Pittston City pounded out 15 total hits with Jack Locker adding two doubles and a single in the win. Cole Ferranti got the win on the mound with nine strikeouts. Alex Hoban had the hot bat for Dupont hitting two home runs in the loss.

PT Capozucca Bros. 8

PT Color World 1

The Capozucca Bros. picked up the win over Color World thanks to the pitching of Robbie Barbieri and Anthony Cencetti.

Ethan Clarke led the offensive attack with two hits. Kevin Lockett pitched well for Color World, and Brayden Powers had two hits.

Exeter Cardinals 14

West Pittston Moose 6

Nico Sciandra hit a go ahead, two-run home run to spark Exeter to the win over the Moose.

Drew Mruk and Casey Noone combined for the win on the mound. Noone, Mruk, Matt Pelleschi, Joey Marranca and Cameron Moser all collected two hits.

Jude Janoski and JJ Hood homered for West Pittston.

Exeter Cardinals 11

PT Color World 3

Drew Mruk hit two home runs and Matt Pelleschi added another home run to lead Exeter to a win over Pittston Township.

Casey Noone scattered four hits to pick up the win. Noone added two hits on the night.

Matt Cocco, Sean Connors and JJ Walsh collected hits for Pittston Township.

PC Knights of Columbus 14

PT Color World 0

Eric Pisack pitched four shutout innings with four strikeouts to lead Pittston City to a 14-0 win.

Pittston City pounded out 11 hits overall in the game. Cole Ferranti and Pisack led the offensive charge each with three hits each, including two runs scored. Aiden Jenkins, Jacob Giardina and Ethan Ghannam each scored two runs for Pittston City.

Sean Connors had two hits in the loss for Pittston Township.

PT Capozucca Bros. 10

Exeter Nationals 0

Anthony Ranieli, Robbie Barbieri and Anthiny Cencetti pitched Pittston Township to victory. The game was highlighted by strong defensive plays by Ranieli, Cencetti, and catcher Drew Delucca.

Exeter was led by the hitting of Jack Mathis.

PT Capozzuca Bros. 12

Dupont VFW 2

Pittston Township’s offensive barrage was led by AJ Grieco and AJ Scialpi. Grieco, along with teammates Ethan Clark and Drew Delucca, pitched the Pittston Township squad to victory.

Dupont was led by Alex Hoban’s hitting.


Pittston Area 10

South Wilkes Barre 2

Pittston Area’s Tyler Cebula picked up a win against South Wilkes-Barre Thursday night, pitching a nearly complete game. Logan Booth pitched the final two pitches for the save.

Franny George and Ian Kochanowski each hit a triple and double toward the win. Mike George also contributed a double. Multiple hits by Cebula brought three RBI. Logan Booth added three singles and along with hits by Jake Gardner and Jake Morreale.
