WILKES-BARRE — After holding a 1-0 lead heading into the half, Wyoming Area worked to stay on top. In the end, Meyers rallied for a 3-3 draw in Wyoming Valley girls soccer action Wednesday.
The draw drops Wyoming Area to 4-4-1 and in seventh place out of 13 teams in the Pennsylvania Interscolastic Athletic Association District 2 Class 2A playoff race. In the WVC Division 2, the Warriors sit in fifth place with three weeks to play in the regular season.
The Warriors opened up the scoring when Aleah Kranson received a pass from Tierney Porfirio with eight minutes gone in the first half.
To open the second half, Meyers’ Kayley Nilon scored unassisted to tie the game. Four minutes later, it was Erica Gallagher who took the lead back for Wyoming Area with her own unassisted goal.
With a 2-1 lead and 15 minutes to play, Wyoming Area would figure to put in the dagger when Caitlin McDonough scored on a feed from Kranson.
Meyers scored the final two goals, in the final 10 minutes, to get the tie. Caitlin Butchko made eight saves in the draw, while both teams got off 15 shots throughout the game.
Pittston Area 2,
Pittston Area’s Grace Mimnaugh scored both goals for the Patriots, including a game-winner in overtime, as the locals took care of Tunkhannock on Wednesday.
Mimnaugh scored at the 11-minute mark in the first half, with Tunkhannock’s Amber Shirtz scoring just four minutes later. With 4:33 to play in the overtime period, Mimnaugh scored unassisted for the winner. Taryn Ashby had five saves in the win.
Holy Redeemer 5,
Wyoming Area 1
Eden Stella scored for Wyoming Area in a loss to Holy Redeemer on Monday.
Stella’s goal game unassisted with 10:43 left in the game. Caitlin Butchko made eight saves on 15 Holy Redeemer shots.
Hazleton Area 7, Wyoming Area 4
Wyoming Area’s Ryan Shuleski scored two goals while Jason Mapes made nine saves in a loss to Hazleton Area on Wednesday.
Due to Friday’s inclement weather, Wyoming Area’s matchup with Lake-Lehman has been postponed to Monday, Oct. 17.
