Cade Flanley was in the middle of the offense and was a key defensive contributor with his fielding at third base on the Holy Redeemer team that advanced all the way to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 3A championship game.

Flanley, a former Wyoming Area School District resident and a 2017 Holy Redeemer graduate, batted close to .400 in the regular season, then batted over .300 in the playoffs.

After finishing second in Division 3 of the Wyoming Valley Conference during the regular season, Holy Redeemer won three games to take the District 2 Class 3A title The Royals then won three more in the PIAA state tournament to reach Thursday’s final at Penn State where they lost, 8-3, to Martinsburg Central.

During those seven games, Flanley was 5-for-16 (.313) with a double, five runs and three RBI.

Flanley was a member of the 2016 Swoyersville team that won the state American Legion baseball title and also spent time last season playing for U.S. Elite Baseball.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Kate Romanowski, a senior from West Pittston, and Christina Kilyanek, a sophomore from Hughestown, were all-star midfielder and two of the top three scorers on the Wyoming Seminary team that again swept Wyoming Valley Conference and District 2 Class 2A titles.

Romanowski moved into the starting lineup in the third game of her freshman year. She was named Player of the Year by WVC coaches each of the past two seasons. After scoring 89 goals and assisting on 21 others, Romanowski completed her career with 239 goals and 54 assists.

Kilyanek scored 55 goals and assisted on 12.

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

Molly Holmes from Pittston was a distance runner on the Holy Redeemer team that finished fifth in Class 2A girls at the District 2 Championships.

Holmes ran leadoff on the fourth-place 3200-meter relay and also scored points in the 1600 run by taking seventh.
