Dean Horensky led the way as Jenkins Township scored 31 runs while winning its first two Pennsylvania District 16 Major Little League Baseball tournament games.

Horensky hit three home runs and picked up one of the pitching wins for Jenkins Township, which defeated Hanover, 16-9, Monday and pounded North Wilkes-Barre, 15-0, in four innings Wednesday.

Kyle Breymeier and Anthony Agrella also homered in each game for Jenkins Township, which hit a total of eight homers.

Horensky struck out nine while allowing just one run in four innings against Hanover. He hit two homers in that game when Jack Long also had one of the team’s five long balls.

Breymeier and winning pitcher Jake Burnett were 3-for-4 against North Wilkes-Barre.

Burnett struck out seven in three innings.

Jack Long had two triples.

MORE DISTRICT 16 MAJOR BASEBALL

Duryea and Pittston Township opened Pool B play with wins Wednesday.

Duryea downed Nanticoke, 4-1, and Pittston Township defeated South Wilkes-Barre, 9-3.

Ryan Zepko threw five strong innings and hit a home run to lead Duryea.

Jeremy Cawley also homered.

Nicholas Cerasaro worked the final two innings for the save.

DISTRICT 31 MAJOR BASEBALL

Exeter won its opener in Pool A, beating Swoyersville, 17-7, in five innings June 24.

Jonah Astolfi went 4-for-5 while Drew Mruk added a homer and triple in the win.

Jack Mathis was the winning pitcher.

Back Mountain National then defeated Exeter, 15-5, in four innings Monday.

Casey Noone and Niko Sciandra each had a double and an RBI in the loss. Astolfi had two hits.

Wyoming/West Wyoming started 0-2 in Pool A with a 2-1 loss to Back Mountain National June 24 and a 10-0, four-inning loss to Kingston/Forty Fort Wednesday.

Hunter Lawalla homered and struck out nine against BMN.

West Pittston dropped two games in Pool B, losing 3-1 to Northwest June 24 and 14-4 to Back Mountain National Wednesday.

Sean Petrosky had nine strikeouts in the loss to Northwest. He then had a single and double against BMA.

Jake Byers had two hits in the loss to BMA.

DISTRICT 31 8-10 BASEBALL

Wyoming/West Wyoming and Exeter, playing in opposite pools, each pulled out one-run wins Thursday when the tournament opened.

Hayden Loughman drove in the game-winning run for Wyoming/West Wyoming, which was down to its final out before scoring seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to escape with an 11-10 win over Northwest.

Connor Novakowski’s two-run double sparked the rally. He finished with two hits.

David Fath followed Novakowski with a game-tying, two-run single.

Jacob Snyder had three hits and pitched for Exeter in a 5-4 win over Harveys Lake.

Colby Walsh and Kristian Pugliese each had two hits, including a homer, in the win.

DISTRICT 16 9-10 BASEBALL

Duryea overwhelmed its first two Pool A opponents, ending a pair of shutouts early on the 10-run rule.

Duryea hammered South Wilkes-Barre, 25-0, in four innings June 25 then defeated Pittston Township, 12-0, in five Thursday.

Paul Rusincovitch went 4-for-4 and Duryea allowed only one hit against South Wilkes-Barre.

Chase Montgomery had three doubles and T.J. Johnson added two hits.

Dominic Innanoriti threw a shutout with 11 strikeouts against Pittston Township.

Montgomery drove in three runs and Johnson drove in two in the win. Rusincovitch scored three runs.

Pittston Township had opened with a 10-1 win over Pittston City Tuesday.

Pittston City is 0-3, including a 26-0 loss when it was no-hit by Mountain Top June 25.

Jenkins Township is 0-2 in Pool B. It lost to Nanticoke, 8-6, June 25 and fell to Plains, 13-3, in four innings Thursday.

Paul Jordan McGarry had three hits in the loss to Nanticoke.

Chris Scavo had three hits, including two doubles, against Plains.

DISTRICT 16 SENIOR BASEBALL

South Wilkes-Barre won the title by beating Avoca/Dupont/Pittston City, 9-2, Monday and, 16-3, Friday.

DISTRICT 16 9-10 SOFTBALL

Pittston Area was unable to take advantage of a semifinal bye, losing games on consecutive nights to be eliminated from the three-team, double-elimination event.

Mountain Top defeated Pittston Area, 13-7, Tuesday and Nanticoke downed Pittston Area, 11-7, Wednesday.

Marina Antal struck out 15 and had two hits against Mountain Top.

Antal also had two hits, including a triple against Nanticoke. Danilla Ranieli also had a triple and scored twice.
