Brandon Matthews is spending this weekend making his third career appearance on the Web.com Tour, the top “minor league” of the PGA Tour.
A Pittston Area and Temple University graduate, Matthews has previously played in two Web.com Tour events this season, making one cut to earn $1,625.
He made the July 6-9 LECOM Health Challenge through an open qualifier, but missed the cut when he followed up a 3-under-par, 69 in the opening round with a 74.
The Web.com Tour granted Matthews an exemption into this week’s event, the Pinnacle Bank Challenge in Omaha, Nebraska. He opened with a 1-over-par, 72.
Matthews, a former state high school champion, has excelled in his first year on the lower level PGA Tour Latinoamerica. He is fifth on the tour’s Order of Merit, earning $48,125 by winning one tournament and finishing in the top 10 in two others.
